To Takeover the Greenway in Downtown Grand Forks

HB Sound & Light announces the first annual Greenway Takeover Festival (GTF) to be held September 21-24, 2017. This multi-day music festival will take place on the Greenway just north of the Sorlie Memorial Bridge in downtown Grand Forks. Each day you can expect local, regional and headlining music, a food truck alley, picnic area, beer sales, games for the kids and adults, and most of all, a celebration of the awesome community spirit that makes Greater Grand Forks a great place to live and visit! Bring a chair or a blanket and join us each day.

Here’s how the takeover works! HB Sound & Light will take over the Greenway with a massive stage, sound system, and light show. Headlining bands have been booked for each day. Four arts groups will each takeover a day in the festival, creating a unique sound and atmosphere for their respective day so no two days are exactly alike.

Thursday, September 21: Alley Alive will take over the festival grounds. Known for transforming downtown alleys into concert and festival spaces they will turn their sights to the Greenway. With dozens of arts and craft vendors, local musicians, craft beer sampling stations, and even a roller derby match, Alley Alive will no doubt bring fun and excitement to the GTF. The Minnesota based, Americana rock band, Gear Daddies, will close out the opening day. With headline performances ranging from The David Letterman Show to Austin, Texas' South x Southwest Music Festival Gear Daddies has rocked fans from coast to coast for nearly 30 years. Who doesn’t want to “Drive a Zamboni”?

Friday, September 22: Happy Harry’s Blues on the Red will take over the festival grounds. There will be food trucks, beer sales, games, and most importantly music by regional and national Blues acts. In it’s 11th year, Happy Harry’s Blues on the Red has decided to add a fourth night of music to their season by partnering with GTF and bring the top notch Blues music you expect to the huge festival stage on the Greenway. Fargo native, Shannon Curfman, will close out the evening. Along with being a member of Kid Rock's band 'Twisted Brown Truckers' for the past seven years this guitarist and singer/songwriter is an electric and commanding performer rips solos on the guitar like one of the guys. Between Curfman’s songwriting, her saucy and demanding vocals and her scorching lead guitar Shannon is not to be missed!

Saturday, September 23: The grass roots, regional music festival, Big Forkin’ Festival will not only take over the festival grounds, it will pop up in coffee shops and venues all over downtown. Music will start on the Greenway first thing in the morning to cheer on the runners competing in the Wild Hog Marathon who will be racing through the grounds of the GTF. Musicians of many genres will perform throughout the day and then converge back on the Greenway for an evening of music. The evening will close out with Dead Man Winter, an eclectic rock & roll band. Playing a full-bodied, emotionally resonant brand of Americana-infused indie rock, Dead Man Winter is a group led by Dave Simonett, best known as one of the founding members of the progressive bluegrass group Trampled by Turtles.

Sunday, September 24: North Dakota Museum of Art Concerts will take over Sunday morning with a lively and inspiring gospel brunch featuring the Eagle Rock Gospel Singers, a band whose sound weaves together bluegrass music, folk and country music, and African-American blues gospel. The food trucks will be serving brunch and once again there will be games and other activities for all ages.
