John Legend Takes Us To Church At The iHeartRadio Radio Music Awards

John Legend shut down the iHeartRadio Music Awards with his performance of his new single "Preach."

The EGOT winner hit the iHeartRadio stage on Thursday (March 14) in a monochromatic yellow suit as he belted out his emotional hit. Midway through his performance, John was joined by a full choir that truly took his performance to the next level.

The 40-year-old singer dropped "Preach" last month. In a press release, he detailed how the moving track came to be. "The idea behind the song is that sometimes we can get so frustrated by the news and what’s going on and there’s this scatter going on in ourselves," he said. "Do we become apathetic? Do we become engaged? Do we just talk about it, or do we do something?"

John also detailed how growing up in church heavily influenced the single. "My preacher told me that our neighbor wasn’t just the person that lives next door to you but other people whom you might not even know," he explained on Instagram. "I grew up in the church and one of the things we talked about was loving our neighbors as we love ourselves." Adding, "I can’t just sit and hope that, can’t just sit and pray that I can find a love when all I see is pain. Falling to my knees, and though I do believe, I can’t just preach baby, preach."

Before owning the stage, John walked the iHeartRadio Award Show red carpet in a light purple suit and white boots.
