Marvel Studios Announces Five New Disney+ Series: Hawkeye, Loki And More!

2019 Comic-Con International - Marvel Studios Panel

Fan-boys and fan-girls around the world are currently in recovery after Marvel’s explosive project announcements at Comic Con this Saturday. Studio representatives took over Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center to provide updates on not only films, but series intended for upcoming streaming service Disney+.

Disney+ (said out loud as “Disney Plus”) will be the official consumer streaming platform of the Walt Disney Company. While it’s rumored to allow access to the studio’s vast library of content, it was previously announced that original projects would be accessible too. All we know so far is that it’s scheduled to open for business this Fall at a price point of $6.99 per month or $69.99 annually.

Since Netflix exclusive Marvel projects were recently cancelled, many hoped Disney+ would offer programming featuring their favorite comic book characters. Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige confirmed everybody’s hopes and shared plans for five upcoming Disney+ Marvel series: “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” “Loki,” “WandaVision,” “What If
?,” and “Hawkeye.”

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (Fall 2020):

Actors Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson / Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/ The Winter Soldier) will reprise their roles established in Marvel’s Captain America film continuity for this streaming based series. It will take place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame” as the characters once again take on Daniel Bruhl’s villainous Baron Zemo.

Wandavision (Spring 2021):

Elizabeth Olson’s Wanda Maximoff / Scarlett Witch is set to team up with Paul Bettany’s Vision in an adventure in a post “Avengers: Endgame” world. Although no explanation was given as to how Bettany’s deceased character will be reanimate, he was on-site to commemorate the announcement with his Avengers co-stars.

Olson shared her excitement for the series stating “We're going to have a lot of fun. It's going to get weird. We're going to go deep...we're going to finally understand Wanda Maximoff as the Scarlet Witch."

Monica Rambeau, a character we were introduced to as a child in Captain Marvel, will also be a part of the plot as an adult and will be played by actress Teyonah Parris.

Loki (Spring 2021):

An alternate timeline created in “Avengers: Endgame” will be explored on Disney+ with Tom Hiddleston reprising the role of Loki. Hiddleston shared that he’s ready to get going on the series saying “There's a lot of psychological evolution that is yet to happen...I cannot wait to get started."

What If...? (Summer 2021):

While all other Marvel series hitting Disney+ will be live action, “What If
?” will be animated and feature the voices of characters from across the expansive MCU pantheon. Actor Jeffrey Wright will be making his Marvel cinematic debut as The Watcher and will narrate the series.

Hawkeye (Fall 2021):

Jeremy Renner’s solo “Hawkeye” project is long-overdue, being one of the only original “Avengers” characters to not have a sprawling backstory shared with viewers. The series is set to explore his character’s time spent as rogue vigilante Ronin and will feature Kate Bishop, a hero-in-training.
