McDonald's Is Giving Away a Dozen "McGold" Cards That Grant You Free Food for Life
You may have heard of the legendary "McGold Card," which grants card holders free McDonald's . . . FOR LIFE. Bill Gates and Rob Lowe supposedly have one . . . and McDonald's gave away a version of it in a sweepstakes a few years back.
Now, McDonald's is offering up a DOZEN of them, and YOU have a shot at it.
McDonald's says THREE people will get FOUR McGold cards . . . one for you, and one for three of your friends. It's part of a new "SZN of Sharing" promotion, which is happening on their app from December 5th through Christmas.
There will be daily deals on food and merch orders made through the app . . . and the McGold card winners will be chosen among the participants. They say every day you order through the app you earn another chance to win.
There are some limits on the McGold card. Technically, it only covers two free meals per week for 50 years. Which should be plenty.
The winners will be notified in early January, and they'll have to designate the three friends to get the other cards at that point. The cards will be connected to the friends' names and loyalty accounts, so you won't be able to sell them.
(You don't NEED to make a purchase to win. The official rules detail a process you can go through to get entries without buying anything, but chances are, if you want a McGold card, you order McDonald's often.)
(And they're just offering it as a legal work-around. "No Purchase Necessary" laws essentially prevent chance-based prize promotions from asking people to pay to enter, unless a free entry is available.)
(By the way, McDonald's values a McGold card at $1,040, per year, for 50 years, or $52,000 total. And they'll also give winners a check for $22,285 to "help offset taxes on the prize.")
