#TRENDING 4/26/23: Right Now Is the Worst Time of Year for Sunburns

Right Now Is the Worst Time of Year for Sunburns

Here's a surprising fact: Late April and early May are the worst time of year for SUNBURNS. It's when you're most likely to get a really bad burn.

Here's why: The angle of the sun is about the same as it is in late August. But since it's not as hot, we're less likely to cover up or use sunblock. It's one reason May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

The American Academy of Dermatology posted a list of the top skin cancer risk factors. So keep these in mind . . .

Red hair . . . blonde hair . . . skin that burns easily . . . using tanning beds a lot . . . having a weaker-than-average immune system . . . and working outside, or having a history of excessive sun exposure.

Here are three things you can do to lower your risk . . .

1. Find some shade, especially between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

2. Opt for a wide-brimmed hat. And wear sunglasses to protect your eyes

3. Wear sunblock that's 30 SPF or higher.
