New Trend: Speech-Fasting . . . or Not Talking Until Noon
Do you know anyone who doesn't like to talk until after they've had a sip of coffee? Well, this is REALLY taking that to the next level.
There's a thing called "speech-fasting," where people try to avoid talking . . . UNTIL NOON. That's totally silent . . . they're not even whispering.
Of course, not everyone can get away with this . . . AND keep their job. Or their partner. (Although, maybe the people around you would PREFER if you shut your pie-hole for extended periods of time.)
The idea isn't new . . . but it's going viral now because a European singer has been posting about it on social media. She's a singer, so it makes more sense. She says she's trying to "take care of her instrument."
But there's also some science behind it. One study in 2005 linked prolonged periods of silence with dramatically lowered blood pressure.
It can also help to reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol. And, in mice, it has been shown to promote brain growth.
