Morning Boosts That AREN'T Coffee

I'm a big coffee drinker. I don't care if it's fresh, if it's 5 days old, ice cold or room temperature. I mean I would LIKE to have it fresh and hot, but if that isn't available, I'll make do with what I got. But it seems for every story about coffee that tells us that its antioxidants are good for us, there's another one that comes out to tell us that it's deadly. I don't put TOO much stock in these stories. I've been around enough to know that certain foods change from bad to good for you like the weather at this point. Even so, I thought we'd share some NON coffee "pick me up" beverages to start your day with.

  1. Wheatgrass juice. Fancy juice stands sell this by the shot, but you can also get it in powder and pill form. It's a natural energy drink that helps fight off infections and treat stomach pain. Heck, there's like 100 mineral in just one shot! But, do some research on this one before you dabble. It's actually pretty powerful so there could be some side effects to the health food novice. So, just be aware of that.
  2. Black tea. I had some of this just this morning! Only because I was out of coffee though. Anyway,Black tea has just about as much caffeine as coffee but it's also good for your bone health and could lower your risk of diabetes.
  3. Pomegranate Juice. Good stuff, packed with vitamins and antioxidants plus is a good source of potassium. Only problem I guess is that it isn't exactly free if you know what I mean. Yeah, it's pretty pricey.
  4. Kombucha. Fermented tea, good for the gut with its beneficial bacteria. It also contains lots of B vitamins. After the stories I've heard about it though, it's also a hard pass for RJ.
