Sorry folks, but “alien sightings” is no longer an excuse for filing your taxes late. Apparently, that's a big problem in the UK, and now tax officials are hoping to encourage citizens to file their tax returns on time (the deadline is January 31st) with a list of excuses they will not accept.
Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs gave its people some examples of poor excuses such as, “alien sightings” and “not able to retrieve papers from upstairs due to vertigo.”
Oh...as for unacceptable deductions, claims that will get kicked include: veterinary fees for a rabbit, birthday drinks, and 250 days’ worth of sausage and chips. Not on the list? “My dog ate my tax papers,” but it’s not suggested to use that excuse either.
