A homeless man in Florida has been arrested after crashing a stolen unmarked police car. According to reports, a detective had been directing traffic at an intersection, but had his vehicle, with emergency lights on, parked in the median to prevent left turns. That’s when Leon Perrymond got into the vehicle, made a U-turn and sped off with the vehicle. The detective was able to catch up with Leon and gave him verbal commands to get out of the car, but Leon instead sped up. He continued to drive recklessly as pedestrians ran for safety. Another detective was able to catch up with Leon with his car, but Leon slammed on the breaks causing the detective’s car to crash. Leon continued at high speeds, but eventually lost control and crashed into several parked cars. He was treated at Ryder Trauma Center before being arrested. He faces charges of grand theft auto and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. The detective was not hurt. Leon is being held on $20-thousand bond.
