Stupid Criminal of the Afternoon Award

A man in east China was fined by the police after he was filmed performing several dangerous moves while standing with one leg on top of a moving car.

The man, surnamed Shu, was seen stooping forward and bending backward while balancing himself on the roof of an SUV as it moved along a busy road in Lu'an city. The stunt was part of a marketing campaign, according to local police.

Shu was fined 50 yuan (£5.50) while the driver was fined 200 yuan (£22) and had two points deducted from his license for the violation.

The police received a report on the two men at about 3pm on Sunday and initiated an investigation.  

They also posted the video of the man's dangerous stunt on their official Weibo account. 

'Vehicle with the license plate WanN3Q600: Stop the dangerous act at once! Please turn yourself in and accept the appropriate penalty. We will be waiting for you at the station,' the statement read.

About 25 minutes later, the authorities were able to reach Shu and demanded him turn himself in at the police station. Shu and the driver, Cheng, showed up at the station several hours later at 8:16pm.

It was later revealed that the two men performed the stunt as part of a marketing campaign, according to an updated police statement on Monday.

'The two men have realised that their violation has brought a negative impact on society and have expressed remorse,' the police said.
